A sailor and a waitress

It's about a feeling between two persons:
A boy, stranded and haunted by vultures;
A girl, full of joy, giving bread to pigeons.
The distance between them is a matter of cultures.
Different and significant both are,
from each other they still live so far.

Like a nymph, she would enchant you around her,
perhaps more a mermaid who sings hypnotizing you.
He always dreamed about her being together
with him, who felt that dreams can come true
to anyone, it's only a matter of efforts and wanting,
but it leaves him waiting and longing.

She maybe doesn't care so much, or at all
about this foolish sailor, he's leaving land.
Her feelings can't grow to someone without home,
it must have, at least, some time to spend
in her company. And in love he must fall
for her only and nobody else in the future to come.

One day prior to his departure, he decides to write,
while sitting in the harbour, a letter to his parents
about this two year sailing trip on this merchant boat.
He says he'll be alright, they don't have to worry, he'll survive
the trip. Sudden the girl notice he's freezing while writing sentences,
He went outside the pub where she works and forgot his coat.

She came to him, suddenly their eyes meet,
but it's late, they can hear the whistle blow
Things have been said, now it's time to go.
Every night she prays, standing on her bare feet.
He promised her, in two years he'll return.
One year has passed and his candle still burns.

:)
